Weekly Announcements - Week of 2/13 to 2/17

COVID-19

 

***Updates***

COVID-19 positive students will follow these procedures:

  • Must be isolated for at least 5 days after symptoms first appear or 5 days from the test date for asymptomatic individuals

  • Must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications at the end of the 5 day period

  • Improvement of all other symptoms

  • Upon returning to school, the student must wear a mask for at least 5 days.

If the above criteria are not met, the student should isolate for the remaining five days.

Students who have not tested positive for COVID-19 or are not symptomatic should attend school.

HMS After School Tutoring

After-School Tutoring will be facilitated Wednesday, February 15th & Thursday, February 16th from 3:10PM-4:10PM. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. May.

 

Student ID Badges/Chromebooks 

All HMS students will/have received an ID badge and chromebook. Parents, students are expected to have their ID badges and chromebooks daily. Per new district guidelines, once a student loses or damages his/her chromebook, a replacement will not be issued. Students will only be allowed to use a chromebook in the classroom. Parents may donate the price of the chromebook for replacement. 

 

Bullying 

Parents, HMS bullying reporting forms are available with our counselors. When a student notifies a teacher or staff member at HMS regarding bullying, the student will be directed to complete the bullying reporting form and submit it to their assigned counselor. 

 

8th Grade HHS Tour

8th Graders will tour Hueytown High School in preparation for their upcoming course selection on Monday, February 13th. Only the students who have returned their permission to travel forms will be eligible to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Wallis. 

 

HMS ACCESS Testing

We will begin ACCESS testing for our EL learners this week. ACCESS is a data category for our A-F report card. Parents, we need our EL students present each day for testing. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Al-Amin and/or Ms. Nicholson.  

 

E-Learning Day/President’s Day  

E-Learning Day is Friday, February 17th. Students will not report to campus on this day. Assignments will be provided via Schoology. Also, school will be closed for faculty, staff, and students on Monday, February 20th. 

 

3rd Nine Weeks Progress Reports

Parents, 3rd Nine Weeks progress reports were distributed on Friday, February 10th via PowerSchool. If you did not receive your child’s progress report or have questions about PowerSchool, please contact Mrs. Melvin, amelvin@jefcoed.com 

 

Reminders

**Students are expected to be dropped off and picked up on the side of the building, not the main entrance. Parents are to remain in their vehicles when dropping off and/or picking up students. 

**Classes begin daily at 7:55AM.

**All check-outs must be facilitated by 2:30 PM daily

**Parents, deliveries and DoorDash are not allowed for students at Hueytown Middle School. 

**All parent conferences are scheduled through the main office. If you would like to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher(s), please contact Mrs. Davis in the main office.

 

Student Announcements 

**Attention Students: There will be a MANDATORY Cheer parent meeting on March 16, 2023 at 5:30pm in the competition gym for any girl who is interested in trying out for the 2023-2024 cheer squad. If your  parent does not attend this meeting, you will not be able to participate in tryouts.

 

ATTENTION 8TH GRADERS: 

 

  • Hueytown High School Cheer Mandatory Parent Meeting will be February 15th @ 6:00pm in the HHS Lecture Hall. Any student interested in trying out for the 2023-2024 HHS Cheerleading squad must have a parent present to be eligible for tryouts. Clinic will be March 13-16 with tryouts on March 17th.

 

  • If you would like to participate in HHS Peer Helper Program see Mrs. Wallis for an application. All applications are due February 16th and require a teacher referral. 

 

  • There will be a HHS dance team interest meeting on Feb. 23rd @ 6:30PM in the HHS Choir RM. You must have a parent or guardian present in this meeting in order to audition. 

 

  • 8th Graders interested in singing in the HHS Chamber Choir, must sign up prior to auditioning. The QR code for signing up will be posted outside of Mrs. Wallis’ office. Auditions will be March 2nd & 3rd @ 4:00PM-5:30PM in the Choir RM 

 



Monday, February 13th: HMS Tennis @ Leeds MS, 3:30PM
